What does dermaplaning do?

One of the problems with aging is that your body exfoliates less and less. This results in a build-up of dead skin and dirt on your face that can clog your pores and reduce the appearance of your skin.

Dermaplaning (aka epidermal leveling or blading) is a simple and safe procedure for overall facial skin rejuvenation. Dermaplaning offers a rare combination of exfoliating the skin (epidermis) and removing fine vellus hair (peach fuzz). Dermaplaning is recommended for people who want a non-surgical, non-invasive, affordable skin rejuvenation treatment—with a focus on quick treatment sessions, no recovery time, and no major side effects. People wanting to treat acne scars, poor skin tone, large or clogged pores, fine lines and very dry skin can achieve great skin success with Dermaplaning. Dermaplaning is not the same as microdermabrasion or dermabrasion.

Dermaplaning is a great treatment to offer to patients who are pregnant or nursing who want a deep exfoliation but are not allowed to use peeling agents on their skin because of the risk that the chemicals will be absorbed into the blood stream and may be transferred to the fetus or the child.

It is also a first choice for patients who have excess vellus hair (peach fuzz) on the skin. This hair often causes a buildup of dirt and oils in the follicles, so removing the hair gives the patient healthier looking skin.

The benefits of Dermaplaning include:

  • Decreases appearance of acne scarring, any sun damage or hyperpigmentation, and fine lines and wrinkles
  • Removes facial hair
  • Provides super-smooth skin
  • Stimulates collagen production, improving skin quality and reducing wrinkles
  • May be done as a stand-alone treatment or to enhance other treatments
  • Prepares skin for better skincare product penetration
  • Makeup goes on more smoothly and looks more evenly distributed and gracefully glamorous!

What does professional collagen induction therapy (micro-needling or skin needling) do?

  • Collagen Induction Therapy stimulates new skin, causing the release of growth factors that promote scar-less healing and the deposition of normal woven collagen rather than scar collagen
  • Collagen Induction Therapy creates microscopic punctures that penetrates through the epidermis and into the upper dermis, just below the dermal-epidermal junction (DEJ) and just above the capillaries and nerve endings to stimulate production of collagen and elastin.
  • Collagen Induction Therapy benefits include: (a) stimulates new, thicker and firmer skin, (b) increased smoothness, (c) increased hydration, (d) better skin circulation, (e) improves appearance of skin imperfections, (f) reduces pore size, fine lines and wrinkles, crow’s feet, deep wrinkles on the forehead, (g) reduces cellulite, (h) reduces stretch marks, (i) reduces scars caused by acne, surgery, thermal burns or c-section, and (j) reduces pigmentation issues like age spots, sun damage and hyperpigmentation with melasma.
  • In a 2009 study on the effects of Collagen Induction Therapy, nearly 100 percent of acne-scarred participants reported a marked improvement in the visibility of their acne scars.
  • Collagen Induction Therapy can be used on the face and on many areas of the body, including the arms, neck, legs, abdomen, back, hands, buttocks, love handles and thighs.
  • Collagen Induction Therapy has little to no discomfort
  • The frequency of Collagen Induction Therapy can be as often as once every 2-4 weeks, however for deep treatments every 4-6 weeks. A significant improvement is typically noticeable after one treatment, and some scars may take 3 or more.
  • Collagen Induction Therapy is safe and effective for every skin type
  • The goal at Graceful Glamour is to find the least amount of products and services needed to get you the results you desire, love and can’t stop talking about!

What does professional microdermabrasion do?

  • Microdermabrasion exfoliates the skin surface
  • Microdermabrasion scrubs dead and dull surface skin (epidermis) and simultaneously uses suction to stimulate circulation in the skin
  • Microdermabrasion benefits include: (a) provide smoother looking skin and (b) reduce appearance of pore size, fine lines and wrinkles, age spots, stretch marks, and acne scars
  • Microdermabrasion can be used on the face and on many areas of the body
  • Microdermabrasion has little to no discomfort
  • Frequency of microdermabrasion treatment can be weekly for first 3 sessions, then convert to monthly.
  • Microdermabrasion is not suitable for all skin types
  • The goal is to find the least amount of products and services needed to get you the results you desire, love and can’t stop talking about!

Skin Care FAQs

Will Collagen Induction Therapy help my skin care regimen?

  • Only 4 to 8 percent of the expensive serums you're using on your face actually penetrate your skin. Studies confirm that the treatment can tremendously improve penetration of topical products, allowing you to receive more benefits for your money. This makes total sense considering the fact that microneedling creates thousands of invisible holes in your skin that are ready to absorb products in a way clogged pores can't.

Why should I get my skin care treatment at Graceful Glamour?

  • Skin care is highly technical and requires skill and training. Graceful Glamour uses a combination of the highest-quality, premium supplies matched with the most current education from thought leaders in the industry, great skill and the desire to give you the highest level of confidence and beauty.  Enhance your natural beauty and feel more confident with skin care treatment from Graceful Glamour in Mesa.

Does Collagen Induction Therapy hurt?

  • The shortest of needle lengths shouldn’t produce any pain at all, and for deeper needles most practitioners will provide you with a numbing agent. Afterwards you can expect your skin to be a little pink, and in a worst case scenario you might have a few tiny puncture scabs that fade over a few days. Pain following the treatment is rare, but can usually be easily controlled with over the counter pain medications.

What will I look like after Collagen Induction Therapy?

  • The average person will see some redness and mild swelling in their face right after treatment. This can even resemble a sunburn, and can last for 24 to 48 hours. It’s important that you keep your skin protected from the sun as you recover. There might also be some slight pinpoint bleeding or bruising if your treatment involved needles on the longer end of the scale. These symptoms should all fade quickly, and you should notice smoother and more radiant skin within a week or two. Your skin will continue to experience the effects of a treatment for the entire time your skin remodels itself.

Can Collagen Induction Therapy be combined with other procedures?

  • Absolutely! Micro-needling is a minimally invasive treatment that can be combined with a number of other cosmetic procedures. This procedure is often combined with other treatments like Botox, injectable fillers, chemical peels, laser resurfacing, microdermabrasion, and even other traditional cosmetic procedures for a fully rejuvenated look.
  • Combining and alternating between microneedling treatments and a 35% glycolic acid chemical peel every three weeks has been shown to be an incredible regimen for treating both superficial and moderately deep scars. This combination has also shown an improvement to skin texture and helps fade post-acne discolorations.

What’s the difference between a chemical peel and Collagen Induction Therapy?

  • Both are similar in that they are non-surgical procedures and designed to enhance the complexion of your skin. However these two skin care treatments are very different.
  • A chemical peel acts as an exfoliant, physically removing the outermost layer of skin. This in turn encourages the lower layer to come to the surface, resulting in smoother, more even toned, and all around better looking skin. Chemical peels come in a variety of strengths, the strongest of which can penetrate remarkably deep into the lower layers of skin. While this treatment can also promote an increase in collagen production, just like microneedling, certain deeper chemical peels can be quite invasive, irritating to the skin, and have a much longer recovery time.
  • Microneedling has virtually no downtime after even the deepest of treatments. Microneedling also merely pierces through the outermost layer of skin, rather than remove it entirely. This means microneedling has a significantly lower risk of infection.
  • Both treatments are very effective, and only a discussion with your skin professional regarding your goals can help you decide which is best for you.
